Diabetes is treated through Insulin or oral medicines.Is insulin better than drugs being a natural substance ?

My dibetologist said that drugs are artificial & have bad side effects, but Insulin is a natural substance & is obtained from animals/ humans. Hence it assimilates quicker & has less / adverse effects.It should be prefferred to drugs. Is this correct ?
